Welcome!

This site is devoted to the Seven Sorrows chaplet and the worship of Mary’s Immaculate Heart. I have also included important prayers to Our Blessed Virgin Mary, including the Angelus, the Memorare, and the Magnificat.

The Our Lady of Sorrows devotion began in the late 11th century in Florence. The Servite order developed the chaplet in 1239. The feast day of Our Lady of Sorrows in September 15. Devotion to her is especially prevalent in Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador, Spain, Guatemala, Italy, Mexico and Panama.

  • The Seven Sorrows are:
  • The Prophecy of Simeon (Luke 2:25-35)
  • The Flight into Egypt (Matthew 2:13-23)
  • The Loss of the child Jesus in the Temple (Luke 2:41-52)
  • Mary meets Jesus on the Way of the Cross (not documented in the New Testament.
  • The Crucifixion (described in all four gospels)
  • The taking down of Jesus’ body from the cross (John 19:38-42)
  • The burial of Jesus (Matthew 27:59-61)

There are a variety of ways to pray the Seven Sorrows Rosary. The Servite Rosary has eight segments, the first with a prayer: “My God, I offer this rosary for your glory, so I may honor your Holy Mother, the Blessed Virgin, so I can share and meditate upon her suffering. I humbly beg you to give me true repentance for all my sins. Give me wisdom and humility so that I might receive all the indulgences contained in this prayer.” Then, an Act of Contrition and three Hail Marys is said in honor of Our Lady’s tears. The rest of the chaplet is divided into seven segments, one for each sorrow. Unlike the typical rosary, there are only seven beads in each segment; at the conclusion of each of those segments, the petitioner prays, “Most Merciful Mother, remind us always of the sorrows of Your Son, Jesus.” At the very end of the chaplet, the petitioner prays an Our Father, a Hail Mary and a Glory Be for the souls in Purgatory. To conclude, the petitioner says the following: “Queen of Martyrs, Your heart suffered so much. I beg You by the merits of the tears You shed in these terrible and sorrowful times, to obtain for me and all the sinners of the world the grace of complete sincerity and repentance. Amen. ” Then the following is said three times: “Oh Mary, who was conceived without sin and suffered for us, pray for us.”

There are multiple different versions on Youtube. I pray with this one:

TO MARIE CLAIRE OF KIBEHO, RWANDA (1961-1994) 1. With the recitation of the Seven Sorrows Rosary, the hardest hearts shall change, if you pray it for yourself or for others.

2.By the recitation of the Seven Sorrows Rosary, you shall be freed from obsessions and addictions.

3. This rosary when said from the heart, it will win us true repentance of our sins and free our souls from guilt and remorse.

4.Those who say it often, especially as recommended by Our Lady to Marie Claire, on Tuesdays and Fridays, shall obtain clear understanding of their weaknesses and flaws causing them to sin and those things we don’t like about ourselves and thought were a part of our character, shall change.

5.You shall obtain whatever you ask for through this rosary, praying this rosary from the heart.

The Memorare

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me.

Amen.

The Angelus

The Angel of the Lord declared to Mary:
And she conceived of the Holy Spirit.

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee; blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of
our death. Amen.

Behold the handmaid of the Lord: Be it done unto me according to Thy word.

Hail Mary…

And the Word was made Flesh: And dwelt among us.

Hail Mary…

Pray for us, O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Let us pray:
Pour forth, we beseech Thee, O Lord, Thy grace into our hearts; that we, to whom the incarnation of Christ, Thy Son, was made known by the message of an angel, may by His Passion and Cross be brought to the glory of His Resurrection, through the same Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

The Magnificat

The Prayer Of Mary

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord,
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me,
and holy is his Name.

He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
he has scattered the proud in their conceit.

He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.

He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever.

(Lk 1: 46-55)

Prayer to our Sorrowful Mother for a particular grace

O, mother most holy and sorrowful, Queen of Martyrs, you who stood by your Son as He agonized on the cross; by the sufferings of your life, by that sword of pain that pierced your heart, by your perfect joy in heaven, look down on me kindly as I kneel before you, sympathizing with your sorrows and offering you my petition with childlike trust.
Dear Mother, since your Son refuses you nothing, ask of His Sacred Heart to mercifully grant what I ask, through the merits of His sacred passion, along with those of your sufferings at the foot of the cross.

Mother most merciful, to whom shall I go in my misery if not to you who pities us poor sinful exiles in this valley of tears? In our name, offer Jesus but one drop of His most precious blood, but one pang of His loving heart. Remind Him that you are our sweetness, our life and our hope, and your prayer will be heard. Amen
